The Peter Marino Art Foundation in Southampton, New York, presents a solo exhibition by Richard Deacon from 25 May to 13 July 2024. As announced by Thaddaeus Ropac, one of the galleries that represent the artist, it is the largest exhibition to date of Deacon's sculptures in wood. The announcement places the specific character of materials at the centre of his practice and quotes the artist: "it was the materiality of things which allows you to build meaning". It refers to the freedom Deacon finds in the unpredictability of the wood's surface, to the tension between the pattern of the wood and the shapes he gives it, and to his technique of bending wood, which blurs the boundary between inside and outside. Peter Marino describes the works as "movemented and elegant and almost elegiac".
