Richard Deacon: New Works at Thaddaeus Ropac, Paris Marais

Thaddaeus Ropac presents Richard Deacon: New Works in its Paris Marais gallery, 7 rue Debelleyme, from 13 January to 6 April 2024. The exhibition gathers sculptures and drawings in three groups, defined by their material. The glazed ceramics of the series Made of This, whose title refers to a 1983 song by Eurythmics, are polygonal forms with coloured rims set on low pedestals; the effects of the glaze become visible only after firing. The works of the series Tread are small, rounded forms in highly polished stainless steel with a wave-shaped surface. Three large untitled drawings in pencil on synthetic vellum combine freehand lines with marks made with compass, protractor and ruler; the gallery presents them as autonomous from the sculptures. The exhibition was reviewed by Whitewall and by Télérama Sortir.
