Antonio Catelani: Ala battente at The Open Box, Milan

The Open Box in Milan presents Ala battente, a solo exhibition by Antonio Catelani curated by Gaspare Luigi Marcone. The exhibition consists of the work that gives it its title, Ala battente (2023), an oil painting on two rectangular canvases measuring about 192 x 136 cm overall. Made for The Open Box, a white parallelepiped with a folding, tilting opening, the work belongs to the cycle Abwesenheiten in Preußisch Blau, which the artist began in Germany. The two canvases touch along one horizontal side and do not lie fully against the wall. The paint is transferred onto the canvas through a silkscreen frame used as a filter, without a direct painterly gesture; the artist's thumbprints remain visible on the side margins. The exhibition opened on Wednesday 18 September 2024 and was open by appointment until 30 October 2024.
