Luigi Presicce: La Mamma at ex-Edicola, Siena

From 9 May to 20 June 2026 the ex-Edicola in Siena presents La Mamma, a site-specific installation by Luigi Presicce. It is the seventh project in the former newspaper kiosk of the Le Terrazze district, abandoned for over forty years and used since 2023 by the association Giallo Menta aps for projects of contemporary art and urban regeneration. The work turns the kiosk into a stage-like device and deals with the idea of birth, drawing on 1970s popular culture and in particular on the «sea monkeys» once sold by mail order. The interior simulates a marine environment, an aquarium observed from outside, in which a mother who has laid her children waits for them to grow, fanning herself with a leaf. The installation is part of the project close-UP #2, supported by Fondazione Monte dei Paschi di Siena, Università di Siena and Community Hub.
